Contesting a decision rendered by IVAC before the Tribunal administratif du Québec (TAQ)

Montréal, March 21st, 2024

The crime victims advocacy organization Association québécoise Plaidoyer-Victimes (AQPV) is proud to announce the online release of five information videos in both French and English for victims of criminal acts who wish to contest a decision rendered by the Indemnisation des victimes des actes criminels (IVAC) before the Tribunal administratif du Québec (TAQ). The videos have been prepared especially for people who do not have legal representation.

The phenomenon of non-representation by a lawyer before the courts is becoming increasingly common. The reasons why certain victims choose this route are varied and complex. Already in a very vulnerable position, some victims take on the added responsibility of learning about all the different proceedings in which they must participate, familiarizing themselves with the legal language and building their case. Coming before the court to obtain justice and compensation can therefore represent an additional burden for many. It is for this reason that the AQPV published a free, bilingual guide in 2023 entitled Contesting a decision rendered by IVAC before the Tribunal administratif du Québec.

In order to reach the largest possible audience, the AQPV has also created a series of short information videos to familiarize people with the process of contesting a decision, explain how to navigate through the various procedures, prepare to exercise their rights and play a more active role in resolving their case. These videos, which provide a host of practical tips in clear, accessible language, are also an invaluable reference for people working on behalf of victims and those close to them.

The AQPV thanks the Ministère de la Justice du Québec for its trust in providing essential funding for this project.
