The Ministère de la Justice du Québec has set up crime victims assistance centres (centres d’aide aux victimes d’actes criminels or CAVACs) in all regions of the province. With points of service in all the major courthouses in Québec, CAVACs offer first-line services for victims of crimes against person or property, their family and friends, and witnesses. Services are confidential and free of charge.
Other resources are also available in the form of helplines for support, information and referrals to assist certain victims, their loved ones and anyone working with them. These include SOS violence conjugale [SOS Domestic Violence], the Helpline for Victims of Sexual Assault and the Elder Mistreatment Helpline.
We encourage you to consult the AQPV’s resource directory, which includes many links to resources that can provide you with assistance and guidance in dealing with the justice system, as well as a description of the mandate and main services offered by each resource. These resources are offered by the government, ministries or communities at the provincial and national levels. The directory is organized by subject for easy reference.
